Meta is investing more than $13 billion to build its first Canadian data centre, which will be the largest in Canada. The 1 GW, AI-optimized campus will be built in north of Edmonton, within the Alberta Industrial Heartland. The project was announced and broken ground on July 8, 2026, with a general contractor joint venture (Frost Collective: Clark Builders and PCL Construction). The project is paired with a dedicated 932 MW natural-gas power plant (the Greenlight Electricity Centre, backed by Pembina Pipeline and Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners), and Meta has also committed roughly $60 million to local road and water infrastructure upgrades. 
Site grading began under a county permit issued in May 2026, with full construction targeted through 2029 for the data centre and around 2030 for the power plant, and peak construction employment expected to reach about 3,000 workers. The project will support over 3,000 construction workers at its peak, 300 permanent jobs and will take three years to complete.
